About us
The Scottish Back Clinic combines the expertise of a Consultant Neurosurgeon and Specialist Spine Surgeon supported by a team of collaborative professionals across hospital and clinic locations in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Perth and Stirling.
We routinely deal with a large number of patients suffering from the full range of spinal conditions.
Our multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of spinal and neurosurgical conditions ranges from conservative management (medical therapy, targeted physiotherapy, steroid or analgesic injections) through to surgical options for all spinal conditions including disc prolapse (cervical or thoracic or lumbar spine), spinal stenosis, degenerative spine disease, degenerative scoliosis, infection, fractures, ankylosing spondylitis and back pain, among others.
Facial pain
We also offer the only privately available interventional treatment in Scotland for trigeminal neuralgia.
Internationally recognised expertise
Our Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spinal Surgeon, Mr Andreas Demetriades FRCS(Neuro.Surg), FEBNS is a globally recognised specialist in the field of complex neurosurgery. He regularly lectures at medical conferences and courses across Europe, North America and South America and is passionate about the highest levels of care and surgical technology and innovation.
Our aim is to assess your conditions, understand the reasons behind the symptoms, and try and find solutions to allow the return to normal lifestyle. We try to avoid surgery where possible, and when needed we can offer a wide range of techniques and technologies, including minimally invasive spine surgery, motion preservation surgery, and complex fusion surgery.
All options are openly discussed and all decisions are taken jointly with our patients and their carers.
‘Thank you’
Thank you for helping me get back to my best Mr Demetriades.
Best wishes.
‘You listened and you cared’
I truly cannot thank you enough for what you have done for me – you listened and you cared, something that others failed to do. It is early days yet, but I feel restored and renewed!
I thank you from the bottom of my heart and as a 59 year old, I am really looking forward to my football career!
Many, many thanks.
‘I cannot thank you enough’
Thank you so much for all your kind care & attention and for giving me my life back.
I cannot thank you enough.
‘We would like to thank you, the nurses and all the staff for the excellent treatment’
My husband had an operation on his spine at Fernbrae Hospital.
We would like to thank you, the nurses and all the staff for the excellent treatment he received. The nurses were very kind and attentive, they all made an effort to see him before he was discharged and even the Chef came in.
He is having physio at the moment and again is having excellent treatment from Andreas.
‘To me you are a lifesaver’
I can never thank you enough for all your care and attention and returning me to full health, walking 5 to 10 miles most days with my dogs. My son also sends his thanks now he has his mum back after years of watching me struggle.
To you it may be a profession but to me you are a lifesaver.
Finally felt listened to!
After suffering from trigeminal neuralgia for more than 6 years, I came across Mr Demetriades. He listed to me, took my pain and my concerns seriously and offered a swift option of treatment with injections. I am now pain free and able to get on with my life and I couldn’t be more thankful.
Mr T.P. (Edinburgh)
